About Us

Steven Tito Academy (STA) started with a handful of children in 2012 as a program of The Baobab Home in Bagamoyo, Tanzania. Nine years later in 2021, the school is at full capacity of classes from prep to grade 7 with 180 students.

As an English medium primary school, STA’s mission is to serve the children in the local community, offering high-quality education that is taught in English and focused on individualized learning in a safe learning environment. While corporal punishment is allowed in Tanzanian schools, STA teachers do not hit or harm the students in any way.

The STA school motto is “Learning for Life”. Students learn skills to help them be successful in life, not just exams. We believe learning doesn't stop at the end of school. It is a lifelong task, and STA aims to teach students the skills and strategies they need to be constantly updating, improving and reflecting upon their understanding, ideas, and knowledge to truly be successful in life.

STA’s teachers are some of the best in Tanzania, coming from all over the country to provide our students with a well-rounded education that includes science, mathematics, literacy (English and Kiswahili), the arts, vocational skills and physical education and is tailored to each unique student always with our school values in mind.

As a charity school, STA relies solely on donors to keep the school running. This also enables us to seek out bright students from underprivileged families who could not afford an English medium primary school otherwise. If you are interested in sponsoring a student, you can sign up here: www.steventitoacademy.org/fullsponsorship or feel free to contact us for more info at [email protected].

All parents whose children are sponsored invest their time in a variety of committees (such as the gardening, cleaning, and cooking committees) to ensure that they are as immersed in their child's education. Teachers also hold regular meetings with the parents, both one-on-one and as a group.

STA also accepts students whose parents can pay some or all of the school fees, but who have been unable until now to find a school in Bagamoyo where their children will gain an educational edge.

STA was established in 2012 as a program of The Baobab Home, a registered 501(c)(3) organization in the USA and a registered foreign NGO in Bagamoyo, Tanzania. We are governed by our Board of Directors.

"Education whether formal or informal has a purpose. That purpose is to transmit from one generation to the next the accumulated wisdom and knowledge of the society and to prepare the young people for their future membership of the society and their active participation in its maintenance or development."

- Julius Kambarage Nyerere, first President of Tanzania
